Zurich’s History
Zurich gets it name from the word, Turicum, which was earlier a customs and fort of the Romans on Limmat River’s left bank. Later on, the settlement spread onto the river’s both sides.
In the middle ages, the city of Zurich developed greatly as a cultural, religious and economic centre. Thereafter, in the 13th century, the city eventually achieved more rights of its self-government, however the city still remained a province of the German empire.

Later on in 1351, Zurich joined the Swiss Confederation, thereby becoming one of the leading members apart from Lucerne and Bern.

Traditionally, the city has seen a lot of developments. The forces of the Protestant were led during 16th century at the Reformation where the city’s liberal politicians played a vital role in the establishment of the federal state of the modern day in 1848. Another attraction in the city is Lake Zurich. You can also find various parks around this lake which creates nice places to relax in a good weather. You will also find suitable swimming areas, but at times the water tends to get cold.

Switzerland is known to be expensive. The food you buy in big global chain restaurants may not be of the same value as that of the local food venues. Although the price may be high, it is worth giving a visit to Zurich as this city is full of attractive views and a friendly nature.
